I met up with Rosie and Marc to go to a diner in Red Bank. Toast now stand where the Red Bank Diner use to be. I have so many fond memories of the Red Bank Diner. Toast is great too though. We have a running theory that they’ll never hire an unattractive person- seriously all the staff are solid eights and higher.
I got pancakes, eggs, and home fries. The eggs were not runny or wet. I hate runny or wet eggs. It just grosses me out for some reason. I wasn’t able to finish everything. I took the home fries for another day.
I decided to have some rice and beans. But I also wanted broccoli and chicken. So I used the box of yellow rice. I chopped up some onions, chicken and broccoli and found some beans. I had tried earlier in the week at making black beans at home- it didn’t go well. I had to go to the store to pick up the black beans. The chicken was left over from dinner another night.
The broccoli I steamed and the onions I sauteed. I then combined them in a bowl and warmed it up in the microwave.
My birthday was at the end of May, sorry this is late. Anyway I decided to go to the Natural History Museum for their Mummies exhibit. I’ve loved reading about ancient Egypt since I was a child, I pretended to be Cleopatra and Nefertiti. So when I saw the Natural History Museum was showing mummies I had to go.
We (Rosie, Steve and Marc) started the day off with coffee and bagels. Bagel Masters makes the bagels as you walk in. The air smells like dough raising and yeast. Most of the time, if you get there early enough, the bagels are still warm. I got a salt bagel with egg and cheese.
At the museum we did three exhibits: the Butterflies, The Darkness and The Mummies. We had down time in between to check out the different areas. We stopped at the cafeteria for a snack. I got some juice and raspberry sorbet. It was refreshing after walking around for a long time. In the butterfly exhibit a couple of butterflies landed on me which was fun.
After the museum we went to the Shake Shack. I got a bacon cheese burger and cheese fries. I love cheese fries and they were as good as I remember. The bacon cheese burger was good too- they had messed up my order but fixed it.
And finally when we got back home we watched The Mummy. I’d never seen it before and it looked fun. We ate smores and talked about live. It was a fun birthday. When I got home I finally had a cupcake my mom had got me. They looked too good to be eaten!
I went into the city to see Lost World Z, they have Trader Joe’s– it’s a awesome place. I got pretzel bagels for breakfast sandwiches. Fried egg, I don’t like running yokes or eggs in general. If I eat eggs I want them to be cooked well done. I also like to smoother my eggs in cheese. I didn’t have any swiss at the moment so I used American. And I toasted the pretzel bagel. I also had yogurt and applesauce. I like simple breakfasts like this. I wish I had had some turkey bacon but alas. Next time I’ll have a potato hash with it.
Rosie told me about these awesome unicorn cupcakes. So I had to go and try them myself. They were awesome.
I decided to make fried rice. When I was living in China it was one of my favorite meals. Hangzhou has some of the greats places to eat ever. Anyway…I made the rice the day before. I used peas, corn, cabbage, onion, egg, and garlic. Corn doesn’t hurt my stomach too much but my body can’t digest it.
It’s a simple dish that doesn’t take forever to make. I cook the egg and cabbage separately and add them at the end. I use soy sauce which is also added before the egg and cabbage. I don’t like cooked carrots which is why I never make fried rice with them.
I made chicken, broccoli and noodles. My grandma was always asking me what I was eating- was I have balanced meals. It’s super weird now that she’s gone. I’m still in shock though it’s been a whole week. It feels longer. I keep thinking about all the things that will never happen again. So because I was feeling sad I made a balanced, I assume, meal.
Steamed broccoli, pan seared chicken and buttered noodle. I used my cast iron skillet- though not the one my grandma gave me. She had started giving away her things years ago. I had mentioned that I wanted her skillet so I could restore it.
